June Chua founded the T Project to offer sanctuary and support to Singapore's transgender community.

Founded in 2014 by June Chua and her late sister Alicia Chua, The T Project emerged as Singapore's first social service exclusively catering to the transgender community. Recognizing significant gaps in the existing social services, the Chuas initiated this project to provide necessary support and resources tailored to the unique needs of transgender Singaporeans.

Mission

The primary mission of The T Project is to offer support that enables transgender individuals to lead dignified and fulfilling lives. Through various initiatives, including a shelter program, The T Project offers more than just temporary housing; it provides a holistic environment where residents can access crucial social work interventions, healthcare support, and employment assistance

T Project offers support that enables transgender individuals to lead dignified and fulfilling lives.

Programs and Services
  1. Shelter Program:

  • The T Project operates Singapore's first and only shelter specifically designed for homeless transgender women. This safe haven provides a roof over their heads, ensuring they have a place to sleep, eat, and regain stability.

  • Residents receive not only physical shelter but also emotional support. The shelter program aims to address the immediate needs of transgender individuals who find themselves without a home.

  • Suitable referral support is also provided to residents, connecting them with employment opportunities, healthcare services, and social networks.

2. Trans-Focused Counselling Services:

  • The Alicia Community Centre, integral to The T Project, offers specialized counselling services for transgender individuals. These sessions are tailored to address the community's unique mental health and emotional needs.

  • Trained professionals provide guidance, coping strategies, and a safe space for transgender individuals to express their feelings and concerns.

  • The goal is to empower individuals to navigate life's challenges and build resilience.

3. Corporate Workshops and Advocacy:

  • The T Project actively engages with corporations and organizations through workshops and talks. These sessions aim to raise awareness about transgender issues, dispel myths, and foster understanding.

  • By educating the corporate world, The T Project hopes to create a more inclusive environment where transgender employees can thrive.

4. Fundraising Book:

  • The organization has published the first photo book featuring The T Project and the transgender community. This book serves as a visual testament to their work and a means of raising funds.

  • Proceeds from the book contribute to sustaining the project and expanding its reach.

Funding and Support

Funding for The T Project has come from various community drives and donations, demonstrating significant community and ally support. These funds have been instrumental in sustaining and expanding the shelter's services and supporting the broader objectives of the project.

The T Project remains a vital resource for Singapore's transgender community, offering essential services that promote safety, health, and overall well-being. For more information or to support The T Project, visit its official website.
